Review of M2
20th May 2024

I had an elective c section, I found the care before and the care after could have been better however the actual c section couldn’t have been a better experience. The midwife who looked after me and my baby was Georgie Wallbank, she made me feel really at ease as I was so nervous. She was really caring and I think she even stayed behind after her shift had finished to make sure I was all sorted back on the ward before she left. I think she said it was the first c section she had been a part of since returning to work after maternity leave and I just want to say a big thank you to her, she was great. All of the staff in theatre were so good, I can’t thank them enough for what they did in delivery my baby daughter into the world. The anaesthetist was really good at keeping me calm and I really appreciated the surgeon coming around the curtain to talk to me and asking me if I had any questions after the surgery had finished, I had a c section 7 years ago and the surgeon at the time hadn’t done that so I thought it was really nice of him. I’m sorry I don’t know any of the theatre staff name but I think the anaesthetist was called Sam. The care on the ward before and after the C-section could of been better which is why I only gave the good rating instead of very good.

I was supposed to have my elective section on the 22nd April however it was postponed until the 23rd April which I understand was because there had been complications with one of the other ladies which I understand can’t be helped however the communication was terrible. All staff were telling me different information, nobody seemed to know what was happening and as you can imagine it’s really emotional time and I felt very upset that I had sat waiting all day in a room with a woman who had her baby with her, I was dressed in a hospital gown with a cannula in my hand that was really hurting me and had made all my hand go numb and stiff (I asked for it to be removed as it was so painful and the following day the anethetist inserted the cannula rather than the midwife and I had no pain at all, couldn’t even feel it was in my hand) and I had fasted all day to be eventually told at 4pm that I was not going to be having my baby that day, I just felt the staff could of been more understanding towards me and they need to communicate more with each other as every single member of staff tells you something different. After the c section I was unhappy that was moved into a different room at 11.30pm, I had my baby at 11.30am so was all settled and was asleep, I thought this was really poor and shouldn’t of been moved so late. I was also asked to walk behind the bed (it was all the way around the other side of the ward) so they could put all the bags on my bed to push, I refused and said I wanted wheeling on the bed and the health care assistant didn’t seem too happy about this. The midwife who did my observations after I had my baby every 30 mins was lovely and she was really helpful, I don’t know her name unfortunately. The room I was moved too was awful, cramped and noisy. I had no sleep, staff come in and out at all hours and talk at a normal volume putting the big light on at 6am etc.

I had to wait 10 minutes after my appointment was scheduled didn’t get told by any members of staff but did answer some of the questions I asked.

Suggested improvements
Ask people when they get to the front desk if they have any questions what they want to ask.

Review of Ward S10
18th May 2024

I was transferred to S10 following day surgery at Mexbrough where I had a bad reaction and needed to be monitored overnight. From the moment I go to the ward around 8pm till the moment I left the following day all the staff were amazing they couldn’t do enough to help, wish I got the names but they made me comfortable, I noticed if any other patient needed anything and rang the buzzer someone was there quickly which I did not always experience on previous hospital stays. Would like to express my thanks to everyone who cared for me on S10

Excellent staff immediately friendly and welcoming for the children and parents . Made to feel welcomed. See yo in a timely manner and giving clear expectations of timings for waiting and prioritys from dr's which I feel helps .

Suggested improvements
Maybe just having some sandwiches / biscuits available in parents room it was a long day with no food but I'm sure if I'd have asked they staff would have provided as they were lovely I just didn't want to bother them as they were busy.

I was seen by several professionals over the course of the day. All staff from start to finish were professional, kind and helpful. Can't ask for anymore. Thank you

Suggested improvements
Kept the water refilled at the station. Stop using expensive stale sandwiches packed in London at the little kiosk next to A&E! Tap into local supply chains instead please.

Suggested improvements
To cut down waiting times by staggering the start times instead of everyone arriving at the same time.
